The Jamaican flag was raised for the first time on August 6, 1962, the day that Jamaica became an independent country from Britain. The gold cross on the flag symbolizes the beauty of light and natural wealth for the country. The green triangles represent agriculture and hope while the black triangles portrays creativity as well as strength among the people of Jamaica. According to the Jamaican Information Service, the flag should be flown and never touch the ground. The flag should also be the largest flying flag if more than one flag is flying at a time. To Jamaica, the flag signifies the nations birth.
